CCF triumph in North School Invitational Tournament

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

CCF made the long journey to Ashford, Kent for the North School's rearranged Christmas Invitational Tournament this weekend and came home with the trophy, having been crowned champions! The annual tournament sees some of the South East's strongest U19 teams match up in a day of shortened games and exciting Basketball.

CCF were up against The John Fisher School first and lost a close game 26-31, despite being up by as many as 8 points during the match. Next up for CCF were Ashford school, who proved difficult opponents with their fast guards and sharp shooting. CCF's high intensity pressure defence and quick fast breaks were too much for Ashford to handle, and CCF won a high scoring and entertaining game 67-39, with guards Semitan and Nile giving fantastic two-way performances, with a strong contribution from captain Orin. The final group game saw CCF face off against the hosts North School. CCF's press defence and domination of the boards again gave them the advantage and a 37-23 win. A real team performance was vital in this game, with Damien, Addo and Aqib's cool heads and smooth finshes important in securing victory.

The final saw CCF face The John Fisher School in a repeat of the opening game of the tournament. Once again, CCF's press defence gave them a big advantage early on, behind Nile and Ethan's deadly shooting. Ethan also excelled on the boards, backed up by Addo and Ugo, with all three fighting hard against the bigger John Fisher line up. John Fisher came fighting back in the last quarter, but another three from Nile and a big last second rebound from Ugo saw CCF win the final 50-46 and the overall tournament title! Nile was named finals MVP for his tournament record 5 three pointers in the final and some superb full court press defence!
